We are ES-Tec

ES-Tec GmbH is founded in 2006 with ten employees in the Hopfengarten in Wolfsburg-Fallersleben. The development of door control units, window regulator motors and air conditioning control units for Volkswagen lays the foundation for the core area of comfort electronics.

After five successful years in business, the first subsidiary outside Germany’s borders is founded. The location in Changchun, China, opens up access to the fast-growing automotive markets of China, India, Vietnam and Korea.

The highly innovative, and ahead of its time, parking assistant developed by Volkswagen forms the starting point for the new Driver Assistance Forum. Due to a serendipitous collaboration and coming together of skills and passion, a large team of test drivers emerges in a very short time to devote themselves to testing and experimenting with this first driver assistance system.

The "ES-Tec-Motorsport" project unites a team of enthusiastic motorsport fans and trained motor vehicle mechanics with experience on the race track, who are converting a specially purchased Scirocco 2.0 TSI with 200 hp into a racing vehicle. The aim is to keep the vehicle road-legal.

With the aim of expanding the ES-Tec business model to Ingolstadt in order to serve the southern German automotive market, ES-Tec Süd was founded here in 2011. A completely new business area quickly emerges on site with prototype construction, which is outsourced to our first subsidiary in 2014: ES-Tec Süd becomes GE-T GmbH.

As part of a side project, our motivated colleagues are converting a Karmann Ghia Cabrio built in 1968 into an electric vehicle. The background to the eProject is the bundling of all areas of the ES-Tec range of services in a versatile and technically complex overall project and the expansion of our expertise in the field of alternative propulsion.

We celebrate our 10th anniversary!

The Driver Assistance Forum continues to transform. Our area of responsibility is expanding to include the complex Front Assist environment monitoring system. In order to do justice to the new task, we are once again expanding our team – both in terms of the number and qualifications of our colleagues. The strong growth of the company also requires more workplaces: with Lehmkuhlenfeld 1 in the Heinenkamp industrial area, we open a second Wolfsburg location, in which the management team also sets up office.

Smarthomes are conquering the market – but we see potential for improvement, and are taking this as an opportunity to found a new subsidiary: CUBOS GmbH.

Once again, it is time to expand our premises. The company headquarters move to Brandgehaege 16 in Heinenkamp. Apart from the Driver Assistance Forum, all colleagues from ES-Tec, GE-T and CUBOS find office space here.

The Coronavirus pandemic has the economy in its grip worldwide. Despite all the circumstances, the ES-Tec group of companies grows by another 60 people. This brings with it renewed restructuring. The entire Driver Assistance division moves to Lehmkuhlenfeld.
We also receive creative reinforcement: the marketing agency MSCG becomes part of the group of companies.

ES-Tec GmbH celebrates its 15th anniversary! The start of the cooperation with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles opens up a new, exciting area of responsibility for us. The increasing tasks and rising number of employees require new organisational structures: authorised signatories are appointed in each of our companies.

It is time to open new markets: the second international branch is founded in Casablanca, Morocco. The location is known both as a best-cost country and for its energy-efficient production conditions – ideal to serve the growing demand for sustainable mobility concepts.

ES-Tec continues to focus on expansion and strengthens its organisation with the addition of Thomas Köhler in the role of CTO. Jan-Klaas Witte takes the lead at our offices in Morocco. The office in Ingolstadt is also enjoying significant growth. Between two and 10 new colleagues join us every month, and by year end, there are around 370 employees.

ES-Tec has come of age. In the meantime, a campus has grown around the company headquarters in Brandgehaege. Various teams have moved into four other buildings spread across the industrial estate. The ES-Tec Engineering Centre at Heinenkamp 6 recently begun operations and an office has been established in Stuttgart. The Morocco site is expanding rapidly.
